- This may be a little larger than z_scale, but being a steam fan I found
it fascinating. A new company is working on updating the classic steam
engine with current boiler technology and burning prechared wood pellets
- a "drop in" for coal. The updated engine will out pull two diesels
and do it at 130 mph, which the diesels can't do. The fuel is
reportedly cleaner and cheaper than diesel. I'm not supporting any
facts, just enjoying the idea.
My boiler mag has a coupe of pictures that aren't in the web. But we
have all seen steam engines. This one is Santa Fe 3463, currently
updated cosmetically in the park where it has rested since 1956. I hope
we can all here real steam whistle talk again replacing what ever you
would call the sound diesels make.
