What is the status of z scale these days
- Hello to all:
about 15 yrs ago I collected Marklin Z scale trains. I had a small layout, electric, diesel, and steam engines, rolling stock. Life issues caused me to pack up all my trains and they have been in storage since. Recently I was again bitten by the Z scale bug and have been thinking about getting the trains out of the boxes and getting back into this great hobby. Searching on the internet for info on the state of Marklin Z scale trains has me wondering if marklin Z scale is still alive and well.I see very few on line train stores offering much in the line of marklin z trains. They offer track and structures/parts but very little in the line of marklin z engines or rolling stock. I visited the marklin website and was surprised by the small amount of info the site gave regarding z scale. So my question: is marklin z scale trains still being produced ? If so why does it seem no one is carrying the product, is marklin out of business? Just what is going on with marklin z scale trains these days?
- Hey Ray. I have done vancouver to montreal on via and its a scenery you cannot duplicate anywhere. And if anybody tells you food on trains is poor, they havent done this trip

Rainer; while I live in Canada and like Via Rail travel the trans continental train runs from Halifax to Montreal to Toronto to Vancouver, but to travel one way is more than a round trip on Amtrak from New York to Chicago on "The lake shore limited" to Los Angeles on "The Southwest Chief", then through Anaheim to Seattle and Vancouver BC on 'the Coast Starlight, and back to Seattle and then across the north states of the USA to CHicago on "The Empire Builder" first class in a bedroom. There are mnay more options and if you are from overseas then it is possible to purchase a rail pass and travel even more of the Amtrak routes.
In Canada if you arrive on Amtrak then I would suggest the Rocky mountaineer between Vancouver BC and Calgary Alberta as this is the premier service to see tn4e Canadian rockies as it is all daylight travel on this train. From Calgary or Edmonton in Alberta you can join VIa rail Canada to travel back east. the cars in Via are all the old style cars of the 60 and 70's kept in first class condition but travel on Via Rail transcontinental is in high demand so prices are higher than Amtrak generally but, particularly in the summer months. again you can get a rail pass for Via if you are from outside of Canada.
Both Amtrak and Via provide excellent help online for planning and booking travel in Canada and the USA and have all the latest in bargain fares on any route and rail passes for extended travel in addition to hotel accommodations and car rentals. There are lots of choices if you google "Rail tours North America"

In Canada the Canadian operates from Toronto to Vancouver through Winnipeg and Edmonton. The Ocean Limited runs from Halifax to Montreal. There is high speed for Canada, coach service from Montreal to Toronto And Via and Amtrak operate pool train from New York to Montreal and Toronto via Niagara Falls.
