a person can cut the outside two rings off a BLMA fan detail (N scale
36" fans come out to 48" in Z scale) to get it down to 36" actual Z
inches. if you us a ball bearing (or something similar -- the end of
some pens are smooth and round) you can form a bit of a dome into it.
doing it for 4 fans will take some time, cut it can be done. i thik
i'd use the fan set without center plate (so there's still something to
see). i tried this once to fit a fan in the small (between) GP35 fan,
but had terrible time trying to trim the fan blades. if these had been
made of brass instead of stainless steel they would have cut better ...
but they're not, and so they didn't.
besides that, lift rings and mirrors from the BLMA detail set can give
the F7 a nice look. grab irons are not easy to do on these shells but
are still doable. i had luck using .008 brass wire and making my own,
but now that grabs are also among the parts in the BLMA diesel detail
set you could go with them.
