      Actually, there are still plenty of industrial sidings, small yards, and team
      tracks that use earth and timber bumpers, as well as piles of stone, log
      piles, concrete slabs, derailers..... there are (and always have been) many things
      used for this purpose. They might not all look pretty, but they still work.
