      Job Description
      Communications Director for the Idaho Democratic Party

      Skills and Experience:
      The Communications Director (CD) must have extensive experience with oral and written communications, including communicating internally within an organization and externally with the public and the press. The CD must be able to develop a strong and respectful rapport with political leaders, with the press and with activists in the Democratic Party. The CD must share the vision and values of the Idaho Democratic Party, its elected officials and candidates. The CD must have at least a Bachelors degree and 5 or more years of experience in a communications field. The CD have demonstrated experience:
      • writing press advisories, press releases, opinion/editorials, blog postings, and other written public communications.
      • writing internal communications such as memoranda, talking points and training materials on communications for leaders and activists an organization.
      • communicating effectively via the radio, television and other oral media
      • communicating effectively via internet
      • developing and implementing a communications plan for an organization.
      • dealing with both internal and external communications in crises situations, including implementation of rapid response strategies.
      • working as part of a diverse team of professionals.
      • working with volunteers.

      Responsibilities:
      The Communications Director (CD) will work under the direction of the Executive Director of the Idaho Democratic Party. The CD will also work with the communications program of the Democratic National Committee.
      • The CD will develop a communications plan with the Executive Director, which includes external and internal communications strategies, message frames and quantitative and qualitative goals for exposure in all forms of media in the state of Idaho .
      • The CD will implement the communications plan in partnership with all parts of the Idaho Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee.
      • The CD will set and meet weekly quantitative and qualitative goals for earned media in print, broadcast and internet throughout Idaho .
      • The CD will assist the Executive Director in keeping the leadership of the party informed of the progress of the communications plan.
      • The CD will ensure all external communications to the press and public accurately frames issues in ways that reinforce the vision and values of the Democratic Party and critiques the Republican Party.
      • The CD will ensure all internal communications promotes understanding of how to frame issues in ways that reinforce the vision and values of the Democratic Party and critiques the Republican Party.
      • The CD will work with Idaho ’s Democratic elected officials to ensure consistent and supportive external communications.
      • The CD will evaluate and incorporate all relevant survey data to constantly improve on the framing of the Democratic Party message.
      • The CD will produce content for the Idaho Democratic Party newsletter and other publications as needed.
      • The CD will assist county Democratic Parties to develop communications plans and provide training as needed to county party leaders on communications skills and strategies.
      • The CD must be willing and able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
      • The CD must be willing and able to work on very tight deadlines and under high pressure situations.

      Salary & benefits: commensurate with experience for full-time communications director positions in non-profit or government agency. Standard three-month probationary period applies.
