Online Organizer for Multicultural Engagement
Location: Flexible. MomsRising.org is a virtual organization with staff working around the country.
Hours and duration: Starting ASAP; contract, part time or full time position for one year with the potential for continuation.
About MomsRising.org: We are a rapidly growing online and on-the-ground organization mobilizing the grassroots to advocate for a family friendly American on issues including paid parental leave and paid sick days; health insurance for all children; quality, affordable and accessible preschool and afterschool programs; flexible workplaces; fair wages and ending salary and hiring discrimination based on parental status and family responsibilities. MomsRising.org’s organizing model is similar to MoveOn.org and was co-founded by the co-founder of MoveOn. We help citizens voice support for legislation and culture change that support mothers and families in this country.
Our core team of paid staff and volunteers work collaboratively to develop our strategies and campaigns. As a virtual organization, we are use conference calls and email extensively to communicate, to create and to care for each other. As a part of this lively group of dedicated women, our team enjoys a results oriented work environment where the challenges and joys of balancing work, family and personal time are understood.
Position overview: We are seeking an organizer to help develop increasing avenues for civic engagement for communities of color in the movement to build a family friendly America . Working collaboratively with our team, the organizer will build collaboration with other organizations and leverage online, on-the-ground, phone grassroots mobilization strategies. This is a job that requires sophistication in helping to create an infrastructure for MomsRising.org that ensures that our campaigns address the needs of America ’s diverse families. We will develop proactive engagement strategies and also rapidly respond to breaking issues that impact America ’s multicultural families. This position will focus on organizing at a national level with some targeted actions in selected states with the goal of bringing diverse women’s voices to the political dialog.
About you: You should be a self-starter, have excellent writing skills and be a good team player. Strong project management skills are required. Experience or familiarity with online organizing is important. Experience with or the willingness to learn the necessary technology skills will be critical. Political or advocacy experience is also helpful. The ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
This is a fast-paced job. You'll need to be able to turn on a dime so when there's a new idea on Monday, you can test it and put it in front of 100,000 people and multiple organizations by Tuesday. Experience working in a lead role on multicultural issues in a network of organizations is a plus.
We are looking for someone who is:
- An organizer at heart. You should be eager to empower and engage others in the democratic process.
- A strong self-starter, entrepreneurial.
- Experienced in working with communities of color.
- Comfortable with a virtual office. Able to communicate well in conference calls and email.
- Flexible and willing to do whatever needs to be done to make the project work.
- At ease with technology. You don’t have to know HTML, but you should know what HTML is. Proficiency in email communications is critical.
- Able to track a lot of moving parts and manage complex projects. Maintain attention to detail, while keeping the big picture in mind.
Salary commensurate with experience. A health insurance stipend is offered and flexible work hours are negotiable.

RETIREES CHAPTER RECRUITING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Retired Public Employees Council of Washington (RPEC)/AFSCME, is a 501(c)(4) non-profit corporation that supports Washington State retired public employees for their mutual welfare. RPEC has over 9000 members and the potential to grow to 20,000 or more.
Purpose of RPEC:
•Unite retired public employees in an organization devoted to protection of retiree's rights,
•Improve their welfare and happiness and to give the retirees a strong voice in making their views and concerns clearly known. The Retired Public Employees will work with other retire and active employee groups to accomplish these goals.
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Retired Public Employees Council. We are searching for an energetic and enthusiastic person with a willingness to invest their time and effort to build and grow with the organization.
The Executive Director must:
•Assist in the development of current and long-term organizational goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures for RPEC's operations; make recommendations to the Executive Board;
•Establish plans to achieve goals set by the Board of Directors; and, implement policies, subject to approval by the Board of Directors.
•Work closely with the Executive Officers and Board; report to the President;
•Oversee and engage in legislative and political action activities.
•Communicate effectively and interact with the highest level of interpersonal relationships that will inspire confidence, respect and trust of the RPEC members, staff, RPEC's affiliations such as the AFL-CIO and AFSCME, other outside common interest groups, state and local officials, and news media.
•Live within commuting distance of the Olympia office of RPEC.
This position requires:
•A willingness to travel,
•A work schedule that is varied, involving evening and weekend work,
•A valid Washington State driver's license and an employee furnished vehicle.
The Executive Director is an at will employee. Salary starts at $55,000 per year plus benefits.
