You will want to use the DDProxy to accomplish this.. Here are a couple of good examples: http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/examples/dragdrop/proxy.html?mode=dist

Subject: [ydn-javascript] Drag & Drop: How to drag a copy, leave original in place?

I am trying to find out how to use the YUI drag and drop code to drag
a copy of an instance, and leave the original in its initial position.
Alternatively, how to drag the original but leave a copy in the
      original's position.

Does anyone know how to do that? Is there a basic setting that will
allow that to happen, or os that something that would have to be
implemented with additional DOM scripting by the JavaScript programmer?

      Thank you.
