      Frank,

Indeed, yui.yahooapis.com does support gzipping.  Here are the HTTP headers for a sample request:

      Response Headers
      Date Tue, 25 Mar 2008 19:31:12 GMT
      Cache-Control max-age=315360000
      Expires Fri, 23 Mar 2018 19:31:12 GMT
      Last-Modified Wed, 19 Mar 2008 21:09:00 GMT
      Accept-Ranges bytes
      X-Yahoo-Compressed true
      Vary Accept-Encoding
      Content-Type application/x-javascript
      Content-Encoding gzip
      Age 373215
      Content-Length 3773
      Server YTS/1.16.0

      Request Headers
      Host yui.yahooapis.com
      User-Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.4) Gecko/20070515 Firefox/2.0.0.4
      Accept */*
      Accept-Language en-us,en;q=0.5
      Accept-Encoding gzip,deflate
      Accept-Charset ISO-8859-1,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7
      Keep-Alive 300
      Connection keep-alive

When I run YSlow on a sample YUI example page, it indicates an A-grade for gzipping (it's unhappy about some other things, but happy about the gzipping).

Does your Accept-Encoding request header look like the one above?

Reading the YUI site it would seem the YUI javascript files, e.g.
      http://yui.yahooapi s.com/2.5. 0/build/containe r/container- min.js, will
be gzipped. However when I run YSlow on my webpage it complains
about the YUI files not being gzipped. Anyone ever look into this?

      Thanks.
