I have a Dialog that is working great:

        YAHOO.mainDialog.container.adminDialog =

      new YAHOO.widget.Dialog("adminDialog",
                { width : "800",
                  fixedcenter : true,
                  visible : false,
                  constraintoviewport : false,
                  modal : true,
                  postmethod: 'none',
                  buttons : [ { text:"Commit changes",

      handler:handleSubmit, isDefault:true },
                              { text:"Cancel", handler:handleCancel } ]
                } );

However, when I include a FADE effect in the Dialog instantiation:

        effect: { effect:YAHOO.widget.ContainerEffect.FADE, duration:0.25 },

I get odd behavior. The Dialog opens with the fade effect exactly as I want. However, I then am unable to close the Dialog in any way. The Submit and Cancel buttons call their handlers, but the final dialog.hide() does nothing. Nada. Even the "X" closer in the <div class="hd"> title bar of the Dialog doesn't work. I have to close the browser window entirely.

Without the effect, everything is both hunky and dory.

Any ideas what is going on?

Oh, my, post an example? That would be opening the proverbial kimono, now wouldn't it? :">

Ah, well ... this is just a tinkertoy project on behalf of someone who needs a tool to manage a document repository. The main app is legacy, though I have worked a little on improving it : http://ovweb.external.hp.com/lpe/doc_serv

My project is based on that app, but with heavy modifications to provide an admin interface. That's where YUI came in, offering context menus & the dialog facility, all of which I really like, though I am a true neophyte.

Anyway, so I uploaded the admin project to my personal account and there it is. It doesn't work at all in FF, for unknown reasons. It's not terribly important, as my one user is on IE. It worked on FF up until some change about a week ago, and I haven't tried to chase down the problem there yet.

Well, this is all very annoying to me, and it isn't your problem. But if you'd like to see a real mess (and who doesn't?), drop in at http://users.frii.com/tkantonsen/doc_serv/R&D/Admin_nofade.html and http://users.frii.com/tkantonsen/doc_serv/R&D/Admin_fade.html. Among their many failings, they illustrate the problem I described in my initial post. The one difference between the  is the addition of the fade.
