- Hi !
I am starting with XML, Could you explain me, which is the main
difference between XSL and XSLT and also with XML and XHTML ?
Thanks a lot

define how an XML document maybe transformed into (1 or more) different
(XML- or other) formats. XSLT on the other hand refers to the process of
transforming the XML document. This is done bij XSLT processors (like FOP,
XML is a definition of specifying and containing data, not representing it
(like SGML but much more simplified).
The representation can be completely done bij XSL-stylesheets. This makes
it easier to store data (in the broadest meaning of the word) and makes it
easier to present the data in different environments or formats.
XHTML is a predecessor of HTML 4.0. XHTML is XML compliant HTML. This means
that the syntax can be validated by XML-validators. It is more strict and
therefore better to handle next to other XML documents. As XML does nothing
on representing the data XHTML on the other hand is completely about
So for example, you can store data in an XML file. Then you create an XSL
stylesheet which defines the translation to XHTML. With an XSLT processor
you can represent the XML data via XHTML in a XHTML compliant browser. (Most
browsers accept XHTML because they skip everything unknown.) With a
powerfull XSLT processor it is possible to translate an XML file (realtime)
into XHTML, PDF, Postscript, Microsoft word, Star Office spreadsheet or
maybe even an audio file.
This probably isn't completely right, but the way I understand it.
Hope this helps.
