      THAT NIGHT

      Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!

Kitty tried to bury her head underneath a pillow.

      It didn't do any good.

      Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!

Exhausted, Kitty pulled the pillow off her head and then turned to
look at the clock on her nightstand.

      Four-thirty in the morning.

      Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!

This was ridiculous. It had been going on for hours!

      Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!

Driven past all endurance, Kitty sat up and began pounding furiously
on the wall next to her bed.

"Dammit! Bobby! Marie! CUT IT OUT!"

      Silence.

Kitty waited, trembling furiously. She was still wore out from the
fight on Alcatraz. And she had to catch up on her classes tomorrow.

"Save the damn world and they still expect you to do homework," Kitty
      grumbled to herself.

      It was still silent.

With an exhausted thump, Kitty lay back down in her bed. Thank God.
Maybe now she could get some sleep.

      Squeak!

Kitty slammed her fist against the wall again.

      "Don't you dare!" she screamed.

      Silence.

Rolling on to her side, Kitty rearranged her pillow and tucked it
under her head. Staring at the offending wall, a small smile appeared
on Kitty's face. Reaching out with one hand, her fingertips brushed
      against the wall.

"Congratulations," Kitty whispered. "And good luck, my friends."

Sleep was still a long time coming. But it came eventually.
