It means the link is pointing to a location outside the website root directory.
From the FAQs:
“5. Why does Xenu's Link Sleuth (TM) report http://www.site.com/../page/index.html as broken?
The key is the "../" part. It means you have e.g. a top level page that links to a page in a directory above, which doesn't exist...”
