XBasic versions prior to 6.3 were required to be installed in a directory named C:\xb\ and suggested that you put your compiled programs in the C:\xb\run\

No. The best bet is to rename his xBasic sub dir to .old then install the new version and copy / import this programs from the .old dir to the new install dir.
