Finding appropriate methods to teach about religion in public school social
studies classes will be the focus of this Wednesday's Social Studies forum
      in TAPPED IN.

Time for this special forum will be 8 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Pacific) January
      10 in TAPPED IN (http://www.tappedin.org <http://www.tappedin.org/> .)

Learn about how to teach about religion in a public school classroom in a
way that is sensitive to deeply held differences and constitutionally
protected rights of students and parents. See how the public school
classroom requires the academic study of religion rather than religious
study from a believer's perspective. Learn about the civic principles that
guide teachers in making choices about classroom activities, curriculum
      materials, and discussion topics.

Joining us for this special session will be Margaret Hill, Director Schools
of California Online Resources for History Social Science Education (SCORE
      H-SS) http://score.rims.k12.ca.us <http://score.rims.k12.ca.us/> , and
Director, California Three Rs Project (a program of the First Amendment
Center and the California County Superintendents Association to help schools
with issues related to teaching about religion and conflicts related to
religious liberty). Peg is also Director of the Religion in American
History Institute, a teaching American history program of the US Department
      of Education.

As always, TAPPED IN help desk personnel will be on hand to assist new
users. It's suggested that new users log in at least 10 minutes prior to
the session in case they need assistance. Persons with questions or wanting
more information are welcome to e-mail Michael Hutchison off list.
