      Professor Zeev Sternhell

A prominent Israeli academic and sharp critic of settlement-building
on Palestinian land has been wounded in a pipe bomb attack.

Unknown assailants threw a bomb at Zeev Sternhell outside his home in
Jerusalem Al-Quds around midnight Wednesday. He was lightly wounded
and taken to hospital early Thursday, Israeli police say.

Professor Sternhell is a prominent critic of Israeli settlement
construction in the Palestinian territories and a supporter of peace
      with the Palestinians.

"After an initial investigation, police believe he was targeted
because of his ideologies", police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said,
      providing no further details.

Israel Radio said leaflets were left at the scene offering a one
million shekel ($294,000) reward to anyone who killed a member of
Israel's Peace Now movement that opposes Jewish settlement on land
occupied in the 1967 Middle East war, Reuters reports.
