At a Tuesday meeting of the Milli Majlis (parliament)
MPs discussed the Upper Garabagh conflict and touched
upon the demolition of Azerbaijan's ancient city,
Shusha by Armenians. MP Ibrahim Isayev said that
Armenians are destroying Shusha city under the cover
of renovation operations. He noted that the southern
section of the walls of Shusha Castle was being
knocked down by a company financially supported by the
Hayestan Foundation, with the aim of destroying
Azerbaijani history. Isayev underlined that the castle
walls were being knocked down with a view to extending
the area of a carpet workshop constructed by an
      Armenian businessman living in Belgium.

He also said that the old settlements and the cemetery
of Shusha had been destroyed. Noting that Hajigulu,
Govharagha and Hajiabbas mosques were destroyed long
ago, Isayev said that the house of poet and artist
Khan gizi Natavan, who lived in the 19th century, was
converted into a restaurant. Calling the parliament
not to remain indifferent to the Armenian barbarism,
the MP proposed that the United Nations Organization
and international organizations be informed of the
facts. Stressing that some US companies are engaged in
exploiting precious metal deposits in the Upper
Garabagh Republic, Isayev emphasized that the United
States, which recognizes the territorial integrity of
Azerbaijan, has to withdraw its companies which are
illicitly operating in the occupied lands of
Azerbaijan. He proposed that the US embassy in Baku
and the US government be informed.
