Two journalists who worked for the Iranian Arabic-language news network, al-Alam, will appear in an Israeli court on charges of espionage.

Israeli forces arrested Al-Alam correspondent, Khezir Shahin, 34, reporting from the occupied Palestinian territories and a producer, Mohammed Sarhan, 26, and took them into custody for questioning ten days after Tel Aviv launched Operation Cast Lead against the Gaza Strip.

Israeli authorities claim that the two journalists violated censorship laws and publicized the launch of the Israeli ground incursion into the Gaza Strip before the military censor had cleared the information for publication.

An Israeli court responsible for dealing with the case later ordered that the two Iranian journalists, who hold Israeli citizenships, be released on bail and put under house arrest.

"After the hearing has been delayed for several times, Shahin and Sarhan will go on trial on Wednesday," Head of Al-Alam correspondents Mahmoud Ramak told IRNA Tuesday.

"The Zionist regime [Israel] has not provided strong evidence to the court to convict the Iranians yet," he added.

He said that Shahin has been suspended from working for Al-Alam since his arrest.

Israel unleashed the 22-day war on Gaza on December 27. The three weeks of ensuing air strikes and a ground incursion left over 1,350 Palestinians -- at least 1100 of whom were civilians -- dead and around 5,450 people injured.
