Have I missed something? We are talking about the APRS string that seems to use LORAN notations. I guess it depends on the software, but some use degrees dot decimal minutes & seconds as input and convert for the string.

Lats are 0-90 plus (N) or minus (S) and Longs 0-180 plus (E) or negative (W) in decimal format…

Using your example of N35.67417 W80.23882 which looks like a decimal degree my best guess at values for you would be:

       (using http://www.fcc.gov/mb/audio/bickel/DDDMMSS-decimal.html)

      Latitude: 35° 40' 27.0114" N (deg min sec), 35.67417° (decimal), 3530.20N (LORAN)

      Longitude: -80° 14' 19.752" W (deg min sec), -80.23882° (decimal), 08014.3292W (LORAN)

That put you on Robin Hood Road, near Lexington KY?

Anyway, I saw another answer came through and my LORAN Latitude should have read 3540.45019N 08014.3292W which is close to his Lat: 3540.45N Lon: 08014.33W

          That should get you close

Have I missed something? We are talking about the APRS string that seems to use LORAN notations. I guess it depends on the software, but some use degrees dot decimal minutes & seconds as input and convert for the string.

Lats are 0-90 plus (N) or minus (S) and Longs 0-180 plus (E) or negative (W) in decimal format…

Using your example of N35.67417 W80.23882 which looks like a decimal degree my best guess at values for you would be:

             (using http://www.fcc. gov/mb/audio/ bickel/DDDMMSS- decimal.html)

            Latitude: 35° 40' 27.0114" N (deg min sec), 35.67417° (decimal), 3530.20N (LORAN)

            Longitude: -80° 14' 19.752" W (deg min sec), -80.23882° (decimal), 08014.3292W (LORAN)

That put you on Robin Hood Road, near Lexington KY?

Boy, do I feel stupid too, I meant Lexington, NC (not KY)

I think I had trouble figuring that out initially myself.

Are you noting the format? I kept wanting to put the decimal in the wrong place. Hereʼs how mine are input.

                LATITUDE: XXXX.XXN (for example, I am 4535.55N)

                LONGITUDE: XXXXX.XXW (for example, I am 12239.44W)

                  I would try

                  3567.42N for Latitude

8023.88W for Longitude…see if that works..

                  David,

I think I had trouble figuring that out initially myself.

Are you noting the format? I kept wanting to put the decimal in the wrong place. Hereʼs how mine are input.

                  LATITUDE: XXXX.XXN (for example, I am 4535.55N)

                  LONGITUDE: XXXXX.XXW (for example, I am 12239.44W)

Hello all. As I mentioned when I joined the group, I would post links
to my page on WU when I got everything up and running correctly. It's
been going good now for a week and all issues have been resolved. I
REALLY like the WUHU software it's very easy to use and works like a
charm. The first link will be to my page on WU and the second link
will be to the forecast page for the surrounding area which has other
stations on it, like Cutler Naval Base and some bouys in Eastport,
Maine. Look forward to continuing with the group.

Hmmm.  Jumping into my Wayback Machine and dialing in the year 1967, I see several Citizen's Band and HAM radio towers around my house.  At my house we have a telescoping mast (like the one my wind sensors are on now)(believe it or not, it's the very same one!).  But here in 1967, we have a Super Mag antenna on the mast.  The man up the street has a CB radio, too, but his antenna is called a Beam because it is directional.  It's very large and has to be on the 3-sided mast, also referred to as a tower.

Geee, it's so primitive here (just some of my neighbors have color televisions!).  I'm going back to the 21st Century!!!!!

Oh!  PS:  You'll have to ask one of those smart guys about the lightning thing.

The chimney is close to one antenna tower but the equipment that got toasted was my tv sets and vcr attached to cable. 8 feed lines and the connected radios were not harmed. Go figure. Mast is grounded but I don't gamble... Spring brings a wireless connection to the thermo sensor. I've purchased Panasonic BL-C30 wireless cameras and weather-proof housings for the mast but I haven't had the courage to risk a full time connection to my home's AC.

I plan on Spring 2009 bringing part time AC connection with a home brew, car battery recharging solution for disconnected operation of cameras when at work or away from home.

I will keep you informed on updates.

In addition to the coax going into & out of a APC surge suppressor
before the coax goes to the TV, I think its cheap insurance if it works:-)
