Set your display to at least 1024x768 resolution. Lesser resolutions
are note supported.
You might be picking up noise like you say, if you are running
wireless mode. You might try running a wire from the console to the
remote thermo unit to see if the problem goes away.
Also, make sure that your console's clock and the PC clock are set
closely together. These WS-23XX units refuse to talk at the top of
the hour, from 12am to 7am, when they are attempting to receive the
WWVB radio time. That might be an issue for you if the clocks do not
match. There should be an entry in the log if the clocks are not set
