      Hi all,
I have a La Crosse Weather Center model WS-2812U-IT.

This Weather Center communicates with the computer through a USB dongle.

I'm using Heavy Weather Pro WS 2800 v1.5 to gather and display the data.

All sensors are collecting data and communicating this data - I can see the data in the history.dat file as well as the currdat.lst file.

I'm trying to use WUHU to upload data to weatherunderground.

I set up WUHU using the Console Type and Data Source Type of "La Crosse Heavy Weather File (currdat.LST)" and set the file appropritely.

On wunderground.com, I created a user and a Personal Weather Station (KWASEATT165) and entered same into the Weather Underground tab of the Setup dialog for WUHU (all caps for PWS ID and case sensitive for user password).

I know WUHU is at least getting data since I can see the updates in the main page and the graphs, however, when it tries to connect to wunderground.com, the logfile shows:
      < TIME > WUHU Application Started (1,0,216,169)
      < TIME > WUHU monitoring started (WUHU216HW).
      < TIME > Monitoring file: "C:\HeavyWeather\currdat.lst".
      < TIME > Weather Underground ID: KWASEATT165
< TIME > Weather Underground Background Upload: Final Fatal Eror (No more retries) InternetOpenUrl() returned error 0x00002efd (12029), ERROR_INTERNET_CANNOT_CONNECT.

I googled for this and only got one hit which doesn't seem to be relevant here.
I also looked through this forum - I might be having an issue with trying to connect, however I don't see where...
What is the URL to which WUHU connects to upload data for wunderground.com?
[I don't see it in the INI file.]

I also tried checking the show console com. errors, however that doesn't show anything additional in the log.

Any idea as to what I'm doing wrong?

      Thanks in advance,
      Rich

In the log, un-check Errors Only, this should show the URL that is being sent and the response (if any) from the server.

From this, I would assume normally formed HTTP over standard port 80 to a PHP webserver...if not, this issue may be a firewall thing. I doubt this since there aren't any docs which even remotely refer to allowing traffic and it appears that most everyone else has this working except me, however, I'll ask anyway: Does anyone know if WUHU uses non-standard ports or ports in an other-than-normal way?

Opening these webpages without any parameters returns the format of the parameters expected. So, at least Firefox on this machine can get to these URLs.

Any idea why it appears WUHU cannot or why WUnderground returns failure?

          Thanks again,
          Rich

It almost appears to be a firewall issue. Could your software firewall somehow be blocking access?

              Thanks, again.
"Rapid Fire" in the dialog is Background in the log which is weatherstation.SLD
[This makes "Uploads" in the dialog "Live" in the log which is rtupdate.SLD]

When I replace the obfuscated password and post the complete URL, I get success - so, not FW (at least with Firefox).

I did notice a strange thing, however.
In the log the password is NOT correct (it's not obvuscated in the log).
If I try to change the password in the password box on the Weather Underground tab of the Setup dialog, it appears to accept, however, it does not change in the log...
So, I changed my password in WU to that which WUHU has in it's log.
              That still doesn't work.

I don't see the password in the config file; where does WUHU store the password?

Very odd - maybe uninstall and reinstall?
WUHU doesn't have an uninstall that I see - is the uninstall just delete the directory?

              Thanks for your patience,
              Rich

                Rich,

I am wondering if the password is actually correct now, but the failed uploads with the bad password are being incorrectly uploaded?

Try this, exit WUHU, go to the WUHU Program folder, delete the file:

                WUHU Unsent URLs.dat

                then start WUHU.

The password is stored in the INI (WUHU Configuration Data.ini) file, I believe it is in the [HeavyWeather] section:

                UserName=
                Password=

There is no uninstaller but you can always go to the Control Panel, then select Add/Remove Programs. This will not however delete your INI file.

Before attempting to resort to an un-install, try the above and see if the problem is corrected.

                  Thanks for your help!
I deleted file "WUHU Unsent URLs.dat".

Another strange thing is I start WUHU from "C:Program Files\WUHU", however, that is not where the files are updated - they are updated on my system in the folder "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\WUHU" (Vista Pro).

Anyway, the password was still wrong in the log.

I did it (remove above file) again and changed my password in the dialog (both "Enable Uploads" and "Enable Rapid Fire" checked) and tried again.

I saw that WUHU created the new .dat file and the .ini file was updated, however, the password was only correct for the rtupdate. URL (not correct for the weatherstation. URL)

The password is correct in the .ini file.

                  Anything else I can do?

                  TIA, Rich

I'm pretty sure I did, however, did it again (the delete) after completely exiting.

Now, the password(s) are correct for both Live (rtupdate) and Background (weatherstation) in the log.

However, I still get the errors.

I know the password is correct - I paste the URL into Firefox changing the ******* to the password and get success on both URLs).

Looks like we're making progress, though - the passwords in the log are correct!

I doubt this since there aren't any docs which even remotely refer to allowing traffic and it appears that most everyone else has this working except me, however, I'll ask anyway: Does anyone know if WUHU uses non-standard ports or ports in an other-than-normal way?

If you use a software firewall, did you check the application permissions? You might need to make a new rule for WUHU if some other generic rule is not allowing access to the Internet.

If the URL is properly formed, but WUHU cannot send it, that could imply a firewall issue. If the firewall has specifically allowed your browsers to access the Internet but blocks other programs, or you have inadvertently blocked WUHU in the firewall, this can happen.

What software firewall are you using?

I doubt this since there aren't any docs which even remotely refer to allowing traffic and it appears that most everyone else has this working except me, however, I'll ask anyway: Does anyone know if WUHU uses non-standard ports or ports in an other-than-normal way?

                              Good point.

Regular Windows firewall that comes w/Vista.

So, I put WUHU.exe into the exceptions, removed the file as below (completely exiting WUHU) - still fails with same messaging.

I also turned off firewall, removed file and it still fails with the same message.

This is really weird as I see that there a number of others who get this working just fine...something has to be messed up somewhere.

If the firewall has specifically allowed your browsers to access the Internet but blocks other programs, or you have inadvertently blocked WUHU in the firewall, this can happen.

I doubt this since there aren't any docs which even remotely refer to allowing traffic and it appears that most everyone else has this working except me, however, I'll ask anyway: Does anyone know if WUHU uses non-standard ports or ports in an other-than-normal way?

                                  Hi,
Got a chance to play with this Sunday.

Tried every combination of permissions, run as admin, turn off firewall, run in compatible mode, etc.

Turns out that WUHU uses wininet.dll to use http.
Firefox does not use this - it has it's own engine, I guess.
This dll is part of InternetExplorer.
                                  I never use IE...
I tried to post the below URL into IE and it didn't work - neither of them...
Reinstalled IE and now it works.

Thanks again for all your help - I probably would have given up long ago without it :).

                                  Hope this helps someone else...
