I think this is a physical problem with the weather vane design. I’ve watched the vane flip back and forth a lot. This problem occurs night or day. Today there has been no direct sunlight. It’s been raining most of the day. I don’t think it’s the sunlight interfering with the leds.

      Here is a good example:

      http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KTNCOOKE13&graphspan=day&month=5&day=1&year=2009

It rained and was cloudy most of the day. Plus you can see that it’s erratic during the night hours.

Here’s the same day on another local station:

      http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KTNCOOKE13&graphspan=day&month=5&day=1&year=2009

      and another:

      http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KTNCOOKE10&graphspan=day&month=5&day=1&year=2009

As you can see, mine (the first) is much more erratic than the others.
