process of joining the Army MARS program, and they use Pactor for their HF
digital network. It would be nice to get one of the SCS PTC-II's but that
is a little out of budget right now.

Chip, I've had better luck out of the Kantronics
products. I've used both before but the kam, kam+, kam98 and kam xl are
all worth buying. One thing about the newer kam xl is that you can
configure both ports to work on vhf. Both ports can be configured to work
anywhere between 45b to 9600b so you could have two vhf 9600b ports
on it if needed, or one hf and vhf port.
A better deal if your were also looking at a 9612
since it is locked at doing only 1200/9600 and the kam xl is just $50 more
than the 9612 and the kam xl can do more.
I've seen them on ebay before but when looking
there make sure the firmware supports Pactor on the older kam's.
I am using a kam xl at my qth and it works great
