I like my Kenwood TH-D7a very well. I live in the boonies and HT's are
not very useful this far out (from civilization)from day to day,
however it can be useful at times. Like the TM-D700a, it has APRS
built in and that's the primary use for me at this time. I have worked
the FM birds (Satellites) with it using my Arrow Antenna. That's a lot
of fun. When I get time (probably during the holidays), I'll do some
diging through ISS. The HT is a good backup for Home APRS when there's
a power outage. If and when PCSat2 gets back on the air, it will be a
useful APRS Satellite Digi for bouncing those sigs around the world.
Like the TM-D700a you can run APRS on one side and operate normal FM
dualband voice (and Satellites) on the other side - at the same time.
Of course the TH-D7a is with me at the hamfests and other activities
also. I use an old Garmin GPS12 connected to mine when roaming while
running APRS. Besides APRS, the rig operates very well as a normal
dualband HT. Hope this info helps.
