Group Description

Cross Stitchers Needed to Stitch 18 Names on Black Cross Stitch Fabric which will be joined together into a Quilt in Memory for all those who lost their lives in 9-11.

Volunteers from around the world are joining together to cross stitch this special commemorative quilt that Mary H. from Kentucky is organizing and making. She previously made a large cross-stitched quilt, that included the names and company affiliations of all 343 firefighters who lost their lives from a New York City Firestation during 9-11. Photo shows this quilt.

Now Mary needs your help! She is working on an even larger project, "The World Trade Center Quilt", which will include the names of ALL of those who died in the WTC towers and airplanes, along with a picture of the towers and the "Footprints" poem. This is a huge undertaking, including over 2000 names. She would like to create this quilt as a way to show support and comfort to the families of everyone who lost their lives in 9-11.

There are over 150 panels of names to be stitched, and more volunteers are needed to stitch panels for this quilt. Each panel is made up of 18 names cross stitched in white floss on 14-count black aida fabric. The names are all regular cross stitches (no backstitches or partial stitches).

Volunteers are asked to purchase white floss and a standard roll of 14-count black aida fabric (Charles Craft brand in rolled tubes, 15 inches by 18 inches) which is easy to find in most craft stores or online. Volunteers will be emailed a list of 18 names, instructions and a graph of the names to cross stitch on the black aida fabric. After completing your cross stitch panel of names, you will need to mail it to Mary, who will then assemble all the panels to make the full quilt. Your name, city, state and/or country will be included on a label on the quilt to give credit to all the volunteers who helped to make this wonderful quilt possible.
