Other projects currently have my focus, so I haven't downloaded the new
WSJT software that includes JT9, so I can't help with JT9 specifically

exclusively use JT65-HF, with a dial frequency of 1838 kHz.

I ve only been on 160m since Nov 14th. I have made several contacts on 1.838 with JT65 and on 1.8395 with JT9-1. JT9-1 and -2 (2 min) require MUCH less power.

JT9-1 and -2 (2 min) require MUCH less power.
Many of the contacts were at 5 watts or less.
Several times 1 watt got me single digit reports.
