      First of all, let me thank everyone for the increased amount of reports this week. Secondly, let me apologize for any weird formatting that happens on this report. I am portable in Cheyenne, WY and have to do the report via WebMail, so all bets are off on the outcome.

      Contacts are via FSK441, unless otherwise noted. You'll see some JT65B contacts listed, as several of us out west have been experimenting with other modes for ionoscatter and troposcatter. See W6OUU's Soapbox entry below.

      2M:

      KI7JA:
      WRK: AF6O

      SOAPBOX:

      WA5DJJ: "I think I worked VE3CDX/W7 and KE7NR during the same period. It was confusing, but I think I did it. We will see what the reports show. Got a great screen shot of both calls giving me a 26 report. What fun!"

      KS7S: "Since my 6M home station was partly torn down for the trip to Cheyenne, I decided to take the mobile over to the local park and try out my very old Hy-Gain Halo as an on-the-move WSJT antenna for the trip. Not a yagi by any means, but I was able to work W6OUU and VE3CDX on FSK441 MS and JT65B scatter."

      W6OUU: "KS7S and VE3CDX/7 and I have been playing with JT65B on 6M. We have been able to work each other pretty much any time we desire over the 792 and 448 mile paths respectfully. KS7S and I have completed with as little as 5w on one occasion. The most time it has taken us is 20-25 minutes and in some instances less than 10 minutes. I don’t profess to be an expert on propagation so I have no idea of what propagation mode is in play. We have noticed it is better in the time around sunrise however. If you want to have some fun, find a partner that wants to experiment at a distance of 400-800 miles and give it a try. BTW the settings on WSJT are very important when using JT65B if you want reliable decodes. I use -4 on the sync and be sure to have” Include Average in Aggressive Deep Search” under the decode /JT65 tab selected. Have fun."

      Remember, Sunday Random Hour runs from 5AM-9AM local time, both bands simultaneously - "pick your poison" and have fun!

      Keep those reports coming - Jim KS7S

          I'm having the following problem getting my Signalink USB to work with wsjt and wspr on Ubuntu 8.04.  The internal sound card works fine, but since the SLUSB apparently has a sample rate of 12000, this error throws a monkey wrench into the works when I select it.

          Any work arounds for linux?

            This (excerpt from document from Harry Popov, LZ1BB) helped me:

            =========================================================

            I have problems while using default Audio Device /dev/dsp/ of WSJT
            program. Problems are:

            1. Bad decode on FSK441
            2. Programs crashes every 8 of 10 times when try to transmit on JT65.
            The last was confirmed by F1EBK too.

            Theese two problems might be connected with our local hardware but might
            be /dev/dsp fault. If you encounter the same behaviour just use direct
            card access. Usually Audio Device 1 from WSJT Setup>Options.

            Some modern sound cards do not suport sample rate 11025 requested by
            WSJT . If you have such card you will receive errors during direct
            access try. If so use the clue sugested by Hamish Moffatt VK3SB:

            1. Create in your home folder empty hidden file with name:
            asoundrc

            2. Copy in it the following code:

            pcm.radio {
                    type hw
                    card 0
                    device 0
            }
            pcm_slave.radioslave {
                    pcm radio
                    rate 48000
            }
            pcm.radioconv {
                    type rate
                    slave radioslave
            }

            3. Use appropriate Audio Device number for device called "radioconv".
