  • Hi all, Today at about noon, Zink's Pond had eight Cinnamon Teal (6 males) on it. We also saw two Marsh Wrens chasing around in the cattails. Along CR 301 maybe a quarter mile south of CR 304 we encountered five American Tree Sparrows. I counted around 230 American Wigeons on Pastorius Reservoir and a nice variety of other ducks. There was also a strange duck there which looked...

  • West Slope Birders, On my visit to the Rifle area last weekend, I ran into a group of 6 or 8 hen pheasants, some of them smaller than others (indicating maybe more than one year class). The birds were crossing the road just south of the golf course below the reservoir. My wife and I lived in Rifle from 2001 to 2005, during which I traveled that road daily for work, and there were...

  • Sorry for the late post. Today while driving from Rifle to Durango I stopped at Confluence Lake for a quick look. The quick look lasted an hour and as I was leaving two large terns with black legs and bright red bills were circling over the south end of the lake. Upon closer inspection, they were definitely Caspian Terns. They were still present at about 12:45 PM when I left. I...
