  • Ronda Woodward, Deb Stegall and I found the Brown Pelican yesterday afternoon about 3:30 pm at the east end of the lake at the Colorado River Wildlife Area of the James Robb State Park (south off of D Rd. at about 30 Rd.- Mesa County).   • I made a quick, rather hot stop at the Grand Junction Wildlife Area yesterday about 1pm. Spotted four Black-crowned Night-Herons at the pond, two of which were immature. One of the young was practicing flying short distances landing on different branches in a gangly fashion with wings fanning. After about 10 minutes, this young one flew to a Russian Olive tree and walked slowly...

  • Yesterday morning, Helen Traylor and I saw a Peregrine Falcon on Glade Park on 16 1/2 Rd. about 1 mile south of the store. As I understand, this was about 1/2 mile beyond where the Mostons saw one on Sunday morning. We also saw a family of four Red-tailed Hawks near Fruita Reservoir #1, several families of American Kestrels, and a Cooper's Hawk on a fencepost on the Enoch Lake Road...
