A Southwest Colorado birder recently had a nasty run-in with an enforcement official on Ute Mountain Ute tribal land near Towaoc in southern Montezuma County and escaped without a threatened very large fine.

DO NOT enter any Ute Mountain Ute tribal land without a permit or guide.  Many of the roads in southern Montezuma County are on Ute Mountain Ute tribal land and are NOT marked in anyway.  If it is not a US, state, or county road, you are probably trespassing on tribal land.

      Be very careful!
