Yesterday on Prairie Dog Day several of us from Roaring Audubon went to the North Fork Valley and met Bill Day in Hotchkiss. Bill took us around the “Golden Triangle” in search of raptors. A very productive day indeed with twenty Bald Eagles, five Golden Eagles, double digits of Red-Tailed and Rough-legged Hawks, one Northern Shrike, many Kestrels, and a cage full of Pheasants. Around Paonia several Lewis’s Woodpeckers including two in Jason’s yard. Temp climbed into the mid – 40’s and the local Prairie Dogs did see their shadows (meaning six more weeks of winter in Colorado). It was great to visit someplace warmer than Glenwood and where there are bluebirds year-round. Thanks Bill for your effort!
