Atlasing winding down!
- Greetings,Sunday through today Brenda and I made a final pass through four blocks in the Montrose and Ridgway areas. Best birds was a group of Northern Saw-whet Owls calling at dawn in Billy Creek SWA in Ouray County. We also located the empty Black Phoebe nest under the bridge over the Uncompahgre River, the first nesting record for Ouray County. Kent Nelson found Black Phoebes with young in July. While making the inspection of the bridge I noted a second, older nest which may indicate that the BLPH may have nested there in 2011 as well.Birds are really on the move. I suspect, with the dry conditions, lack of insects and other food, may have discouraged many species at making a second attempt to nest. Will be very interesting to see what turns up during migration!Coen
