The number of raptors in the "golden triangle" area between Hotchkiss,
Paonia, and Crawford (Delta County) was as impressive as ever this
weekend. Highlights were Northern Goshawk (Saturday only near
Crawford), 3 Prairie Falcons (Sunday), and the large number of Bald
Eagles (17 on Saturday and 18 on Sunday).

Here is the list for Saturday (led by Jim LeFevre):
      American Kestrel - 13
      Red-tailed Hawk - 17
      Bald Eagle - 17
      Golden Eagle - 9
      Northern Harrier - 1
      Northern Goshawk - 1 (adult)
      Rough-legged Hawk - 7

      Sunday (led by me)
      Bald Eagle - 18
      Red-tailed Hawk (13)
      Golden Eagle - 9
      Cooper's Hawk - 1
      American Kestrel - 17
      Northern Harrier - 2
Prairie Falcon - 3 (2 perched in the same tree)
      Rough-legged Hawk - 3 (one dark morph)
      Merlin - 1

Next weekend there is an opportunity to see raptors in the Montrose area:
On Saturday, Feb. 12, Bill Harris will lead a field trip in the
Montrose area. Meet in the southeast corner of the Downtown City
Market parking lot at 9 a.m. To register for the Montrose-area trip,
contact Herb Probasco at 970-252-0918 or by e-mail at
herbprobasco@.... In case of bad weather, the Montrose field
trip will be on Saturday, Feb. 19.

      Thanks!
