For those of you who wonder where the pipits hang out, there have been a few at Pleasure Park on the Gunnison on warmer days along the edge of the ice, eating midges.  This is also a fairly good place to get up close to song sparrows, although the easiest place to get close is across the north fork, on the east bank of the main river right above the confluence, early afternoon.  The hatchery near Hotchkiss also has opportunities for both of these, with a little more walking.

Today's birds included GW teal, mallards, common mergansers, a heron, kingfishers, several bald eagles, a sharpie, a prairie falcon, two harriers, a kestrel, a snipe, dippers, flickers, and a flock of mountain bluebirds.
