      Hi All,
Raptor birding around Montrose was a bit of a struggle today.  The weather certainly wasn’t to
blame.  Mostly blue skies and pleasant late winter temps prevailed.  The red-tailed hawks(12) and
kestrels(11) were out in force, and the usual smattering of bald eagles(5), but precious little else.
One golden eagle and one sharp-shinned hawk rounded out the list for the day.  Ice is off many of
the local ponds so the ducks and such are populating the open water.  A few common mergansers
and a pair of buffleheads were the highlights.  12 people participated in the field trip, and we raised
$60 for the bird banding project at Ridgway State Park.  Thanks to all participants for their
interest and enthusiasm.  The day was dedicated to the memory of Herb Probasco.
