>> WCW LIVE REPORT
By Michael Tavares, [WarriorMT@...
Hosts -- Jeremy Borash, Bob Ryder
Guests -- Eric Bischoff, Dave Scherer of 1wrestling.com & Wrestling
Lariat, and Mark Madden of WCW hotline
Mike's memo -- This is just a short recap and to the best of my ability
to listen, type and keep up with the live show. There might be a few
minimal errors, however, nothing major. The purpose of this recap is to
give you an idea of what happened during the show and is not intended to
stop fans from listening. I type these up so long as time permits me to
as well as my college work schedule. Thanks.
Technical difficulties postponed the beginning of the show. Delay was
Mark Madden joined the broadcast. Eric Bischoff joined in as well.
Borash asked Bischoff of the direction of WCW and the response. Bischoff
talked about the recent PPV as people enjoyed it from beginning to end.
Great wrestling action and stories played out well. Then be able to
follow it up with a good Nitro.
Ryder joined in on the conversation of the crowd being involved at this
past Monday's Nitro. Bischoff gave his thoughts on Ryder's comments.
"We're going to try and fulfill everyone's goals and expectations."
Madden brought up the ratings. Bischoff discussed how the ratings have
grown because of last year's numbers. Advertisers have grown in number
(Little Cesars pizza).
Borash asked about the "G-rating." Bischoff said, "We're not going to go
to extremes to
shock...we're just not going to do that..." Bischoff also said what WCW
is doing now will be more successful as time goes by and he is still
learning from experiences with WCW throughout the last six months on
their direction. Ryder and Bischoff then talked about the turnaround of
WWF being on top with the ratings after WCW dominated for so long.
Advertising was mentioned as well (WWF's Super Bowl commercial was an
example of "controversy."). "Controversy creates Nash and they've done a
good job." Bischoff gave his comments as to why the shift change in
ratings (March 1998) occurred.
Question -- Davey Boy Smith, any comment on that?
Bischoff -- "The fact of the matter are that we have been paying Davey
Boy Smith 4-6 months while he was out...I don't think we have heard from
him during that time...only lawyers...we got a call a couple of weeks
ago Davey Boy Smith is ready to work...we then got a call from an
attorney saying no he isn't ready to wrestle...we have been dealing with
his attorneys...it was my understanding he was coming back to work and
then he wasn't and then he was and then he wasn't...so we had to pull
the trigger...I can look in the mirror and know I did the right
thing..." Basically, the reason why he was released was because of the
way Smith handled the situation.
Question -- Chris Jericho, what do you think of him?
Bischoff -- "He's a good talent and has a lot of potential...I like
Chris personally...hopefully he will stay here."
Madden and Bischoff talked about the talent roster in WCW. Bischoff
mentioned that WCW
probably does have the deepest in history, however, a lot of them are on
the injured list. "Good TV does create good morale." Also talked about
the creative team. Ryder asked about Nash being unhappy and now happy.
Last November Nash was frustrated and called Bischoff. "This is a
business filled with egos." Bischoff said that Nash only called because
he wanted to be used in a better situation. Bischoff then made a deal
with Nash and gave him the opportunity to be a part of the creative
team. "I think he's done a great job."
Question -- Are you going to start a hardcore title?
Bischoff -- "Clearly if you look at the matches in the last couple of
weeks...it's a possibility...I'm just not a big fan of gimmick
matches...I was amazed at how great the match was (hardcore
match)...there's room, no doubt about it."
Borash plugged tomorrow's show (Tony Schiavone before Thunder and Kevin
Ryder asked about the tag team wrestling situation. "Has it changed your
opinion on tag teams?" Bischoff - "It's just that tag team wrestling
becomes a difficult thing to manage...but when you look at the # of
hours to produce...we need as much talent to stretch throughout the
show...to break up the tag team and have more matches..."
Borash asked if Bischoff had seen the ESPN special.
Bischoff - "I have not even seen it...I got an earful from people...I
feel like I have seen it..."
Question -- Where is DDP's direction going? Do you really think bringing
in new people going to help on ratings? (Borash asked who Bischoff felt
was the best new face he brought into WCW) Bischoff -- "He is going to
evolve...you're going to enjoy the transformation of DDP...he's a very
committed guy...the audience is going to dictate...not Eric
Bischoff...yes, it does...you need as many new faces...part of what we
need to do is bring in a new look and as many as you can...in fairness
that Bam Bam Bigelow...he is the easiest to work with...incredible in
Madden and Bischoff talked about the young talent and how Nitro got to
where it is now (took 3-4 months to get to this point according to
Bischoff). Bischoff then spoke of the established talent like Ric Flair
and Sting. Madden asked about the organization of Nitro and the
storylines (nWo take over angle). Bischoff stated that angle brought
life back into wrestling, which was slowly dying.
Ryder asked if Nitro (in the past when it started) would get as big as
it got. Bischoff said no as he didn't think about the limits of how big
Nitro could be. He just knew it would grow and expand.
Borash asked about the rating, is it personal?
Bischoff -- "I love to compete...I love to be number one...I always try
to be number one...it's personal in that sense."
Question -- Where do you see WCW in 10 years?
Bischoff -- "2-3 years ago I sat down...presented a plan for 5
years...goal or vision of the company...my 5 year plan included not only
expanding on turner networks but into other forms of entertainment...we
are in development with Warner Brothers movie...expanding in kids
programming...I see it in 10 years...we're beginning production on a
movie for Sting this summer...we'll continue to be a vital part of
Turner/Time Warner...there will be new WCW programming...all kinds of
things going on."
Borash brought up the rumors of Bischoff leaving WCW.
Bischoff -- "It's bizarre...I hate to bring it up...it's childish...I
don't know how that rumor started..." Bischoff explained he was tired
and wasn't excited, so he took sometime off. Basically, he was burnt
out. He also mentioned what we see now on Nitro is through the hard work
of the creative team.
Madden brought up with Bret Hart.
Bischoff, "I don't know...you know? I think if there was a mistake with
Bret Hart (changing Bret as a face upon his WCW debut)...that was a
mistake...he was given opportunities (taking out Sting and other
wrestlers)...I like Bret Hart, don't get me wrong...some of it has to do
with injuries...hard to sustain momentum...other than that, I really
don't know about Bret."
Ryder brought up Warrior. Asked his thoughts on him.
Bischoff, "I enjoyed working with Warrior...he's a class guy...I wish it
worked out...he is one of the most professional...most intensity
work...I haven't talked to him since he left...I wish it would have
worked out...the situation wasn't helping (injury)...blew out a
Question -- Is deal with WCW and New Japan still on?
Bischoff -- "Yes, it is." Talked about the talent exchange is hard
because of the schedule, as it is a killer.
Borash asked for Bischoff's opinion of the Internet and if it has
Bischoff -- "I think it changed a culture. Brought of Life section of
USA Today as an example of television is being taped because of the
Internet having an effect on it. Wrestling fans just can't get enough.
They want backstage info. Sometimes the rumors are
interesting...ridiculous...depends on what rumors are..."
Question -- What do you think about current stated of 4H?
Bischoff -- "Take a look at reaction of 4H on PPV and Nitro. I think
what you are seeing are a much stronger reaction than what they had in
Ryder asked about a push for the Crusierweight division like all C-W
Bischoff -- "I don't know if that will happen...this is a desire to move
them around the roster to work with other guys...the c-w division has
lost its identity...we're going to go back to what brought us to the
dance..." Bischoff also stated he would not produce another wrestling
show, despite how good it would sound or be.
The three-hour Nitro was not Bischoff's decision. He wishes Nitro stayed
at two. He said there is no advantage of holding an audience for three
hours. Stated Thunder changed things for WCW as to momentum and give
wrestlers breaks with tapings.
Ryder asked about the split feed of TNT.
Bischoff -- "Not really a difference...did not make an impact."
Madden brought up Scott Hall and his drinking angle on TV.
Bischoff -- "I don't want to talk about Scott's personal life...I talked
to Scott a week ago...he's trying...what I told Scott is he can do
whatever he wants to do...no, because I thought...Scott needed to be
involved...taking reality and weaving them into angles...it's going to
get dark and it's going to get ugly...but end up on a high note...it
didn't go as planned..."
Borash asked about Bischoff's on camera role and changes on Nitro set. A
part of Bischoff doesn't want to. "Change is good...we wanted to bring
the announcers closer to the ring...the more excited you get about
it...bring fans a little more closer to action."
Ryder and Bischoff talked about the WWF promoting and advertisers (teen
and preteen). Bischoff was surprised about it and misjudged it.
Borash talked about to Bischoff about the use of women in WCW and if
there will be a women's division. Bischoff, "Perhaps...I say that
guardedly...it's something we're talking about...it won't be utilizing
the way WWF does with their women...if we can find enough talent...we'll
Question -- Whatkind of future does Scott Steiner have?
Bischoff -- "He is more comfortable with his role (improved mic
skills)...no question about that (Scott as a main eventer)."
Bischoff left the show.
Bischoff did not appear to be arrogant or cocky. He was upfront and
WCW Live is the most listened to show online. Madden talked about how
people listen to them (Madden, Borash, Ryder) and not online newsboards,
despite how some people take shots at them.
Ryder discussed how online fans were upset that they did not ask
Bischoff "hard questions" when in fact they did, but in a respectful
Question -- Is the Bret Hart situation a work or shoot?
Madden said it was a work.
Question -- What was the point of the angle with Canada? (Mike's memo -
Jericho badmouthing Canada, etc.)
Madden -- "A. We're trying to be bad guys. B. I was trying to be a bad
guy. C. Don't take it seriously. It's a work."
Question -- What's the story on WCW taking signs from fans? What do you
think of Jericho's chances of resigning with WCW? Borash said Doug
Dillinger might be a guest. Madden thinks WCW does take a lot of signs,
but he sees the point of WCW doing it. Madden said it depends on the
money offered to Jericho. July 27th is when the contract expires.
Question -- Know anything about the WWF letting go of wrestlers?
Madden said Public Enemy is gone. Blue Meanie too.
Madden said Scott Hall might be at Nitro this upcoming Monday, but not
Question -- WCW classic program?
Ryder -- On Turner South, program that will use footage of past...could
go down this summer.
Madden said Nash came up with the line of "my girl against your girl"
from the Flair-Savage angle.
Question -- What is possibility of Sting becoming a heel?
Borash said he could be either or, like a tweener.
Madden made a "Madden hater" look dumb. Madden makes a great heel. :)
Borash plugged the future shows. Very special guest on Monday's show
next week. Name was not disclosed. Madden might have Raven on his radio
show this Friday.
Question -- Nash vs. DDP match?
Borash -- Nothing has been etched in stone yet.
Madden made predictions on the Undertaker angle. When Ryder was asked of
his opinion, he said, "I think it's a cross." Great quote. Two in as
many days for Ryder.
News with Dave Scherer --
Return for Scott Hall? The big night will be on Nitro this upcoming
Monday. A few possible opponents are being talked of for Hall to set up
an angle for Slamboree. We'll find out on Nitro. Hall can work when he
wants, such as only PPVs and Nitros, according to his deal with WCW.
Davey Boy Smith has two crushed vertebrae and four that are fractured
and may very well need to have four inches of titanium fused into his
spine. That operation could leave him in a wheelchair. His career in the
ring is over.
You can now buy title belts from Figures Inc. at --
-- Most belts are $150.
Lee Marshall returns as an announcer along with one of the Revenge of
the Nerd guys on a Nestle's Quik commercial.
WCW Saturday night taping matches are as follows:
Vampiro vs. Bobby Blaze, Disco Inferno vs. Barry Horowitz, Lenny Lane
vs. Evan Courageous, Ernest Miller vs. Chris Adams, Bam Bam Bigelow vs.
Wrath, Rey Misterio, Jr. & Billy Kidman vs. Dean Malenko & Chris Benoit,
Raven & Saturn vs. Damian & Silver King, Booker T vs. Scott Norton,
Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Barry Darsow, and more.
Question -- Will Hogan, Savage, and Sting join together?
Borash -- "I highly doubt that."
End of the show.

Interviews for the show:
Shane had long mic work discussing his fight with his dad. Says The
Rock will be the champ after Backlash.
Tiger Ali Singh had some mic work where he offered $500 for a female
to massage his feet. Terri and Jacky came out from the back and began to
massage his feet but when he was only going to split the $500 between
them they tried to knock him off his feet. Tiger fought back but a guy
ran in for PMS's behalf and beat down Tiger. PMS left with him. Must
have been Sean Stasiak starting his angle.
Mike Cole introduced Sable and she talked for a little bit about her
new bodyguard Nicole Bass and how Sable Inc. brought her in.
WWF RAW Tapings 2/13/99 to air 2/19/99
Hosts: Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler
A mound of dirt is piled in front of the Titan Tron and a grave is
dug. There are some Stone Cold pictures around the dirt. A hearse is
driven into the arena and The Rock enters the ring. A casket is placed
next to the dirt under the Stone Cold pictures. Rock does mic work
saying Stone Cold is to be buried tonight and a funeral held.
Road Dogg defeated Owen Hart w/Debra.
-This match decided the number one contender for the tag team
championship. Road Dogg also stated that if he won Debra would show 'her
puppies'. She began to after the match but Jeff Jarrett ran out and
wouldn't allow it.
Gangrel & Edge w/Christian defeated Acolytes

the ring with a baseball bat when the ref wasn't looking and hit
Bradshaw with it. Edge was placed on top of Bradshaw and got the pin.
Godfather w/ Hoes defeated Bob Holly
-Some hardcore elements to the match when the ref went down after taking
a hit. Goldust ran into interfere and so did Al Snow. Snow used Head to
knockout Holly allowing Godfather to get the pin when the ref woke up.
No holds barred match Ken Shamrock defeated Big Bossman.
-Ken got the pin after a belly-to-belly suplex. After the match
Undertaker came on the Titan Tron and said he had Ryan hostage in a
motel room on I-96 on the way to Lansing, MI in room 223. Ken took off
Shane mic work
Triple H w/Chyna vs. Mankind
-Pete Gas and Rodney were commentators for the match. DQ after Chyna
interfered in the match. Test, Bossman and the Posse ran into the ring
and beat down Mankind. The Big Show came out and made the save.
Chokeslammed Test. Mick says thanks for the save but at the PPV he's
done once he enters the Boiler Room.
On the way back to the locker room Mick is clapping hands with the crowd
and a kid grabs his hair. Mick grabs the kid and drags him to the
guardrail and holds him until security escorted the guy out. Mick waved
to him as he left.
Billy Gunn vs. Jeff Jarrett w/Debra
-Billy said we were going to see some T & A. 'Debra's tits and my Ass!'.
Announced as a DQ when Owen interfered. Road Dogg who was ringside also
entered the ring and DX cleared house. Debra teased taking her top off.
Gunn mooned her.
Paul Wight vs. Viscera
-Before Paul can attempt a chokeslam, Undertaker comes out with Paul
Bearer. Wight and Taker nose to nose. They fight for a bit. Ministry
into dominate Wight, but Mick runs in for the save.
Val Venus out and does mic work about the Y2K problem or something.
Sable out and gets the mic and says she will be doing a spread in
Playboy again. Ivory and D-Lo out. Val and D-Lo push each other around.
Ivory goes after Sable. Bass out to save Sable and Ivory gets
chokeslammed. Funny stuff after the match with Val and Bass.
King had to so some mic work so the workers could set up for the last
action of the night. The King was great for about 8 minutes joking
around with the crowd and commenting on signs.
The Rock out to start Stone Cold's funeral service. He starts reading
some things about Stone Cold when Steve apears on the Titon Tron in his
3:16 Monster Truck. Several takes are taken of him riding around in the
parking lot with it. He gets out and asks a worker where The Rock's car
is. Steve gets in The People's Car and centers it in the lot. He gets in
the Monster Truck and proceeds to demolish the Rock's car. Steve rode
over the car three times or so.
The Titon Tron then began to rise and Steve entered the arena in the
Monster Truck. Steve kept on reving the engine when the Rock started to
talk. Steve backed up the truck and then rode half way over the hearse
and left it sitting on top. When Steve got out of the truck the Rock
greeted him and the fought all over the area beneeth the Tron. Steve
gained the upper hand and whipped him into the grave then he poured beer
on the Rock. Steve began to celebrate more when Shane ran out and
smacked him in the head with a shovel and then pours beer on him.
Shane begins to walk to the ring with the belt about half way there
Steve gets up and tackles him from behind. Steve throws Shane in the
ring and celebrates. The Rock gets out of the grave and retrieves the
belt from the ailse and goes to the back with it. Shane gets up and gets
stunned. Steve celebrates all over the ring. Rock runs out and tries to
attack Steve but gets stunned. Lots of celebrating, Shane gets two more
stunners and The Rock gets one more. When Steve is done drinking beer
and celebrating by the dirt pile and Monster Truck he leaves. The Rock
and Shane get the mic after half the crowd were out of there seat and
say The Rock will be the next WWF Champion at the PPV.
Some notes I want to share
-Steve was practicing in the parking lot before the show around noon
with the Monster Truck.
-The guy with Droz will be called 'Prince Albert' as far as we found
-Ok this will be hard to describe but it's pretty funny. The one guy who
is seen around the ring at all times during broadcasts with the headset
on his head and he is kind of fat that doesn't announce was walking
around the lot. He wasn't doing much and people started yelling at him.
One kid picks up a rock and chucks it at him and hits him in the back.
The guy spins around throws off his headset and starts sprinting after
the little kid. He jumped a four foot guard rail and hauled ass across a
200 yrd parking lot before giving up. Nothing news worthy I just thought
I'd write that fat guy can run fast when provoked.
-Something else useless but funny; The fans in the lot were real tough
on Kevin Kelly. He was called everything but his real name. Kevin
eventually got mad and started yelling about get a job and life then
yell. The fan said he had a better job/life then Kelly. They contined to
yell at Kevin. Kev went to the back then came out with a camera crew and
got in the guys face and said 'Ok tell the camera your job and life.'
Guy said he worked at McDonals. Kevin made fun of him and called him a
zero and loser. All the way back to the garage Kevin made an L with his
hand and pointed at the guy/crowd. More funny being there but I'd
thought I'd write that.
-Vince was not shown as being there but was backstage. Ryan Shamrock was
outside the whole day. Man she is hot. Gillberg was around.
We will be on the right side of the screen when watching TV. For sure
we got on the begining of Heat and RAW with our big 'The Rock Says'
written on four pink boards. Look for a RWIN, WA, 'The Price is Wight
Bitch', and the names Kevin, Jon, Craig and Curt in that area and that's
