  • Hi, I don't do this very often, but I do re-download the WP Appliance occasionally, and Ed is gracious enough to update it periodically when Apple comes up with a new OS. Here's how I do it successfully. The order of your steps is vital: 1. FIRST go to your Apple computer's System Preferences/Security & Privacy and turn your Firewall OFF. You will need your password for this step...

  • My experience with new (even what I was familiar with) software is that it takes time to learn it, so be patient and easy on yourself. This group is generous with help. There is WordPerfect, and there is the WordPerfect Appliance, which I use. If you don't need everything from WP, the Appliance works fine—for me, at least. Daryl

  • All is not lost. Someone will get back to you on this Yahoo group. I have a couple of older Macs running WordPerfect, but I can't tell you right now how to install on the older machines because it's been too long since I did it. • I've certainly noticed the current WP is terrible at remembering recently opened files, even when I set the preferences to remember many (10+...20+). I might get three, and they won't be the ones I opened, either. • Steve, I have a 2010 Macbook Air and had the same problems with El Capitan—nothing would start. I have also had the purple screen. I decided to start all over with the WPApplicance. I think others will have more complete solutions, but here's what I finally and successfully did, after several problems. I found, in my Applications folder, 1) SheepSaver and 2) WPAppliance. I...

  • Thanks to John Blommers, who listed a series of steps to install the WordPerfect Appliance, and I want to add background and re-iterate. Sorry to state what others might find obvious. Despite repeated attempts to open WP, my install of John Rethorst's WordPerfect also crashed with El Capitan. I quickly got nowhere—not even SheepSaver would open. So, with advice here, I went to Ed...

  • I have updated a Macbook Air from late 2010. I had Yosemite before. It won't open. I will re-load and re-install Ed Mendelssohn's program to see if I have any luck, but it may be some time before I get around to it. • Smokey, In John's latest build (2.1.1) I'm able to shut down / Quit WP without quitting SH-SS. Alternatively, you can quit SS as well as WP. Is this what you mean by "quitting Mac OS"? Daryl
