An author/journalist friend has an archive of articles and chapters
written years ago in WordPerfect 3.1J. Under OS 9, she could use WP to
read and work with her files, but under OS X, this is no longer
possible (even when Classic launches, 90% of the time, the WP31.J
screen flashes then nothing happens and it cannot be relaunched).

Of course, she needs to reference these files from time to time. Text
Edit will open them but all the WP codes are displayed as well as
codes for all the punctuation, which makes it difficult to read them,
      much less work with them.

Does anyone know of a WP converter or stripping tool that will extract
      the code from the text?

      Thanks for your advice,

The 3.5e version should be able to read, and convert, these files just fine. She will just have to download and install it, as per the instructions found on
