Most of the festival comers were "Flower Children", or in another word, hippies. They were divided into a variety of many different types of people, like gays and lesbians, anti-gays, black militants, rednecks, anti-war protesters and Vietnam soldiers. The majority was young men and women, but there were also old people and even little children!!!
The festival organizers say in the movie that they only expected a few thousands of visitors, but 500,000 Americans showed up, enjoyed this special and magical time, and came back with a totally different outlook on life.
Music may be the most important reason for all those people to come to Woodstock. Many of the time's greatest artists preformed during the unstoppable 3 days of Rock N' Roll, and kept the visitors Rockin', Rollin' and even Rock N' Rolling(in the original meaning of the expression). These are few of the artists who played their music on the Woodstock stage: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Santana, Joan Baez, Jefferson Airplane and Grateful Dead.
The movie also features interviews with the organizers of the festival, the crew(even the cleaners!) and different visitors, like in love couples, rock fans, hippies, juvenile kids that ran away from home to be in the festival, young doped and more.
For conclusion, the Oscar honored movie, is to many opinions not only a documentary film that brings life into the piece of musical history, but the ultimate rock movie of all times.
