For a clean shear with piano wire I would think the inner and outer parts would need to be hardened steel and close fitting, possibly requiring so grinding

Years ago my club operated with a similar designed weak link, not as neat but the same idea two halves basically rod inserted into a hole with a shear pin. The

There are two brands of Tost links. The better quality ones fail at +/- 5% of the quoted value, and the others at +/- 10%. I believe our club uses the better
