I am inclined to suggest that the second method is more accurate:                                NEW      REPEAT     TOTAL # of Visitors

I am inclined to suggest that the second method is more accurate:
                                     NEW      REPEAT     TOTAL
      # of Visitors Converting         A         B         A+B
      # of Visitors                    C         D         C+D
      Conversion Rate                 A/C       B/D       (A+B/(C+D)

As indicated by Christelle, the time periods must be consistent.
