Hi all, long time lurker but I think this is only my second post. I'm
really having a hard time trying to interpret my Webalizer stats.
For the longest time it seems that my hit count has always equalled
my page visits. I know, this doesn't make any sense because I know
the difference between a hit and a visit. I know that if I have 4
images on a page plus the page itself would equal 5 hits and one
visit but as you can see by the below screen-shot image my hits have
always equalled my page visits. Can anybody tell me why this was?
Lately though, it did seem to sort itself out as indicated by august
and september but now the numbers still don't seem right to me. As
you can see visits have dropped off drastically while hits and
requests for files increased. I assume this is due to the effects of
my linking campaign and that my site is linked on other web sites.
What's great about webalizer is that I can actually track the day
that the page visits stopped equaling the hit count which was August
4th 2005 and indicated by the below screen shot.
Now unfortunately, for the month of September all the numbers seem to
be low compared to August and indicated by the below screen shot.
Being the consumate worrier that I am, I decided to check my SE
saturation and have also noticed that that has dropped off as well.
For instance, last month I had over 2800 pages indexed in Google but
that has now dropped to only 512 and in MSN where I used to have over
1000 pages indexed I'm down to only 404.
I guess my question is, could there be a correlation between the drop
in pages indexed in the Search Engines and what I'm actually seeing
in my webalizer stats, ie; a drop in requests for files, hits and
visits and also as mentioned above, why did my hits equal my page
visits then all-of-a-sudden stop?
Thanks for any help or insite that you can provide.
