      WASTEWATER PUBLIC HEARING CANCELED

The advertised rate hearing for Wednesday, June 11 has been canceled by the Wastewater Management District Commission (WWMDC).

In a brief statement issued after two executive sessions on June 9, the WWMDC said: “Working together, the Wayland Wastewater Management District Commission and Board of Selectmen have decided to pursue betterments to finance the capital costs of the Wastewater Treatment Facility. Since betterments are part of the FY2015 budget, we do not need to hold a rate hearing. As a result, the scheduled rate hearing for 2014 June 11th is no longer necessary and is hereby canceled. Under advice of special Counsel, the WWMDC is not able to say more at this time.”

For some time the commission has been evaluating imposing betterment or surcharge fees.

Users of the town’s new $5.6-million treatment plant have been complaining for months about the prospect of huge betterment fees. According to comments made in public session, the WWMDC has until mid-August to establish the betterments.
