Dear Wayland Voter,
Wayland officials have canceled plans to repeat an experimental sharing of the Wayland transfer station with Sudbury customers on Saturday Dec. 18. Wayland and Sudbury transfer stations will be open during the usual Saturday hours.
An announcement from Town Administrator Fred Turkington acknowledged that customers were delayed by as much as 15 minutes during peak hours last Saturday. WVN readers had reported delays of up to 25 minutes.
Wayland selectmen discussed the problem at their Dec. 13 meeting. Turkington offered suggestions to accommodate heavier Saturday traffic -- off-hour pricing, for example. There may be a second trial in January. The two towns have been seeking collaborative ways to cut expenses.
WVN READERS: WHAT DO YOU THINK?
At the moment, both transfer stations are open on Saturdays and on two weekdays one station is open to both towns, Wayland on Tuesday and Sudbury on Thursday. This is a chance for users to compare the two stations. If successful collaboration increases, it's possible that one station will close.
Which station do you prefer? What are the strong and weak point of each?
