Dear Wayland voter,
Several important meetings are scheduled this week in Wayland Town Building. The most significant is a public forum on town debt Monday evening.
-- Monday, Dec. 6 Finance Committee public forum, 7 p.m. Voters authorized nearly tripling Wayland's debt to finance the new high school. Where does that leave taxpayers, and what more debt should be authorized in the near future? -- Tuesday, Dec. 7, Public forum at 7 p.m. on efforts to plan future uses of the Loker conservation and recreation area on Route 30. Selectmen and Conservation Commission representatives will be on hand as well as the Recreation Department. A plan by a citizens' group for private development of athletic and recreational facilities was withdrawn at last May's Annual Town Meeting, pending Recreation Department studies and public input. -- Wednesday, Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m. Raytheon Public Information Process meeting, explaining Raytheon's ongoing cleanup of hazardous waste at its former Rt. 20 facility, now the proposed site of the Town Center mixed-use development. Background:
-- Wednesday, Dec. 8, 7:30 p.m. Wastewater Management District Commission meeting. A deadline for completing a land swap and meeting other contractual obligations to be able to move forward on building a new wastewater treatment plant was set to expire before Thanksgiving. The town's new plant is part of Town Center plans. At its September meeting, the Commission had signed off on Twenty Wayland's application for a required DEP sewer connection permit.
