WVN Alert: Tree hearing
- Dear Wayland Voter,
On Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. the Board of Public Works (acting as tree warden) and Planning Board will hold a tree hearing in Town Building that will include trees that NSTAR seeks permission to trim on Rice Road as part of continuing work in the Route 30 corridor. A hearing is required for Rice Road trees, in contrast to other streets in Cochituate, because Rice is designated a Scenic Road. NSTAR is expected to be represented.
For residents wishing to address the Board about NSTAR's recent activity in Cochituate and on private property, the meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and starts with Public Comment. At that time, residents can informally present personal information/evidence (e.g. photos of trees), ask questions, share concerns, etc. The hearing then starts at 8 p.m.
It would also be an opportunity to meet the town officials and staff who issue the relevant town permits.
The Department of Public Works has been trying to make arrangements with NSTAR for the replacement of trees in the town's right of way should they fail in the next few years as a result of the current round of aggressive trimming. It is not clear what will occur for similarly affected shade trees on private property.
