      2 important town center meetings

      Dear Wayland Voter,

The Planning Board will hold a public hearing at 8:30 p.m. today,
Aug. 1, at the Town Building on proposed rules and regulations
for the proposed shopping/housing/office development at the
former Raytheon property on Route 20. WayCAM will tape the
hearing for future broadcast. Details, including a draft document,
      are at www.wayland.ma.us/planning.

On Thursday Aug. 3 state officials will visit the site, seeking
public participation to to help determine the scope of an
environmental impact review. The meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. at
the Raytheon building, 400 Boston Post Road. The Executive
Office of Environmental Affairs recommends using the Route 27
entrance. Take a left turn when you're inside the project site, park
near the large building and and watch for a sign or someone to
      direct you.

The state will accept written comments until Aug. 15. Write to
Holly Johnson, Massachusetts Environmental Policy Act Office,
Executive Office of Environmental Affairs, 100 Cambridge St.,
      Suite 900, Boston, MA 20114 (holly.s.johnson@...,

"Opinions as to the extent and significance of possible
environmental impacts will be welcome," Ms. Johnson says.

Raytheon is embarked on an environmenal cleanup expect to
      last for several more years.

Before voters approved zoning for the project, citizens expressed
environmental concerns, including waste water capacity,
hazardous waste, nearby recharging areas for town wells and
the effects on the federally protected Sudbury River.

Ms. Johnson says the state will reply by Aug. 25 to the
Environmental Notification Form filed by the developer, Twenty
Wayland LLC. That form is available at the Planning Board
      section of the Wayland website.
