      Dear Wayland Voter,

After an extended debate at last night's Town Meeting, the new
position of Town Administrator was approved by a vote of 110 to 74.
In other words, 184 voters (out of a total of 8,651) were involved in
the decision to make what may be the most significant change in the
structure of Town government in decades.

Also last night, the Town's operating and capital budgets were
approved. All amendments to reduce various line items were defeated.

Another important issue will be debated when Special Town Meeting is
convened tomorrow, Wednesday, May 5, High School Field House, 8:00pm.
The first six articles that STM will consider involve various
proposals regarding the acquisition and use of the former Nike
missile site on Oxbow Rd. (STM Articles 1-6, pgs. 98-103).

There are, essentially, two `camps' on this issue: proponents of
      using the site for affordable housing, recreation, and open space;
and proponents (many of them abutters) of using it only for open
space. Both scenarios have important implications for the entire
Town. WVN encourages you to attend the Special Town Meeting. Your
vote matters. (If you would like a copy of a WVN newsletter
published earlier that summarizes the proposals related to the former
      Nike site, please email waylandvoters2@....)

Thank you for reading this newsletter. Please forward it to your
