In spite of a "plea from Maine's top
turtle trapper," the state has banned the commercial harvest of
snapping turtles" says the Maine Environmental News 7/26. The ban was
unanimously approved given concerns "about the viability of the
population" in the state and public support that was "overwhelming .
stirring an outpouring from across the U.S. and even to England." As
more states pass bans on commercial harvests buyers and trappers are
moving to open states to meet a "bid demand in Asia" for snappers.
