Ocean Shores Seabreeze Festival

2013 SEABREEZE WALKING FESTIVAL at Ocean Shores, WA, Feb. 16-18! This
third biennial event, headquartered at the Lions Club, will offer
volksmarches along the beach, on the bayside, and at Point Damon, a
former state park. A bike ride around the perimeter of town, with
distances of 25 K or 30 K, will also be available. Three more walks will
occur on the North Beaches—Griffiths-Priday State Park, Roosevelt Beach,
and Moclips. In addition, there are a number of YRE’s available on your
way to and from the beach.
THE SATURDAY NIGHT SOCIAL, back by popular demand, will feature a
scrumptious Italian buffet and BYOB. Dinner details are given on the
club website at www.capitolvolkssportclub.org Reservations must be
received by Feb. 1st.
LODGING. Remember this is Presidents Day Weekend, so make your hotel
reservations early. The Sands Resort is giving special prices to
volksmarchers. Details on the club website. You can also go to
www.oceanshores.org to find lodging.
LOCATION: Ocean Shores Lions Club, 832 Ocean Shores Blvd NW, Ocean
START TIME: 8-1 Sat, Sun, Mon; FINISH : 5 pm Sat, Sun; 3 pm Mon
6 Walks, distances from 5 K to 30 K, ratings 1A-2C; 1 bike, 25 K or 30
K, rated 1A + 2 YRE’s in Ocean Shores and many on the way to the beach.
You may complete the festival events in any order you wish. For those
who don’t want to travel with their bikes, there are a couple bike
rental shops in town.
State Parks (4 of them) and Fraternal Organizations (7 stamps) are the
major challenges/programs featured, but others are also available.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS: I-5, Exit 104. West to Ocean Shores through Aberdeen
and Hoquiam. From Hoquiam follow State Route 109 approx. 18 miles to
State Route 115 and turn left. Continue to Pt. Brown Ave (the entrance
to Ocean Shores) and turn left. Right at the traffic circle, W. Chance a

Driving Directions: I-5 Northbound and Southbound: Take Exit 104 (US
101). Continue westbound as US 101 becomes SR 8 and then US 12 and
finally US 101 again, passing through Aberdeen and Hoquiam, then follow
signs to Ocean Shores. The entrance to Ocean Shores is Point Brown Ave.
Turn right onto Chance-a-la-Mer at the traffic circle, then take the
next right which is Ocean Shores Blvd. Drive .1 mile to the Ocean Shores
Lions Club on the right.

Start/Finish Times: Walkers may begin walking any time between 8 a.m.
and 1 p.m. daily, and must be finished by 5 PM on Saturday and Sunday,
or by 3 PM on Monday.
Saturday Evening Social: Pasta, Pasta and More! is a pasta buffet
featuring Caesar salad, several kinds of pasta, Italian meat balls,
lasagna, garlic bread sticks, regular and decaf coffee, tea, and
dessert. Cost is $20 per person (includes tax and gratuity). Advance
reservation is required, and seating is limited to the first 75 tickets
sold. No tickets will be sold at the door. To reserve your seat, print
and complete this ticket order form, and mail it, together with payment

Facilities/Pets: Restrooms and water will be available at the start and
finish, also at restaurants or stores (where they exist) along the
routes. Pets are permitted but NOT in buildings. Owners must observe
leash and clean up laws.
Cost: Those walking for American Volkssport Association credit will pay
$3 per walk, but free participants are welcome. All walkers and cyclists
must register, carry, and return a start card. An embroidered patch is
available for $3.
Lodging: Please note this event occurs on a holiday weekend, so it would
be prudent to make hotel reservations early. The Sands Resort is
offering special pricing for the Seabreeze 2013 Walking Festival, and
the details can be found here; when registering, mention that you are
attending the walking festival.
Other walks in the area: If you would like to come early, stay late, or
walk on your way down and back, we have YREs for you. These can be found
in Ocean Shores, Aberdeen, Grand Mound, Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater,
Centralia, and Chehalis. Details of all of these are on the CVC website
under Everyday Walks.

Walk and bike details: All walks, and the bike route, are MAP ONLY
routes; there will be no trail markings. Please also note that many of
the walks are weather and tide dependent.
Ocean Shores Beach Walk: 6K or 11K or 20K, rated 1C. Walk along the
beach side of Point Brown at Ocean Shores. These walks are not suitable
for strollers or wheelchairs.
Ocean Shores Bayside Walk: 6K or 11K or 20K, rated 1A. Walk along the
bay side of Point Brown at Ocean Shores, with views of Mt. Rainier and
the Olympics (weather permitting). The 20K walk returns to the start
point via the beach. The 6K and 11K walks are suitable for strollers or
wheelchairs, the 20K walk is not.
Damon Point Walk: 5K or 7K or 10K, rated 1C. This area was formerly part
of Damon Point State Park, before the ocean took some of it back. Walk
along the beach and through the marshes of the Point. Please note that
while portions of this area may have been called Protection Island in
the past, this is NOT the Protection Island located just west of Port
Townsend in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. These walks are not suitable for
strollers or wheelchairs.
Moclips Walks: 5K or 10K, rated 1C. Walk from Moclips to Pacific Beach
State Park, through the town of Pacific Beach (10K route only), and back
to Moclips along the more rugged and rocky North Beach. These walks are
not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
Griffiths-Priday State Park Walk: 5K or 10K or 12K, rated 2C. Walk along
paths through the dunes in Griffiths-Priday State Park, and out to a
remote beach situated between Conner Creek and the Copalis River. These
walks are not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
Roosevelt Beach Walk: 5K or 7K or 10K, rated 2C. Walk below the high
bluffs at Roosevelt Beach. Climb the stairs up the bluff to the village
of Seabrook to enjoy the views. These walks are not suitable for
strollers or wheelchairs. This is a new walk for 2013.
Point Brown Bike: 25K or 30K, rated 1A. Bike the entire perimeter of the
Point Brown peninsula, and back up the middle to the start point.

(SR202) east to Woodinville. LEFT onto NE 175th St., next LEFT onto

RIGHT onto NE 178th Pl. Turn RIGHT into strip mall, parking within the
Barnes & Noble/Top Foods Complex. There is a path to the Station between
B&N and Sleep Country. Explorer Scouts will be available for directing
walk traffic for the first couple of hours. Afterwards, look for signs.

The Trails: Walk on asphalt trails, woodland paths, and road shoulders
throughout the park while viewing native northwest wildlife in its
natural setting. Strollers will have difficulty on the 10 Km trail. The
5 km trail is suitable for both baby strollers and wheelchairs.
Awards & Fees: A 100% embroidered traditional Four-Plus Foolhardy Folks
style patch of a lynx designed by Dorman Batson, is $9.00. Only 75
patches are available and there will be no reorders. Credit only is
$3.00. Free participants are welcome, but MUST register, carry, and
return a start card.
Hatpin: “B” hatpins available.
Miscellaneous: Water, restrooms, and food at start/finish. Water at
checkpoint. Pets are NOT permitted in the park! Service animals must be
approved by park personnel.
Directions I-5: exit #127 (SR512) east to SR161 (South Hill/Eatonville).
RIGHT (south) on SR161: Follow Northwest Trek signs to park (22 miles
From SR167: South to SR512 (Puyallup/Olympia) to SR161 exit. Left on
SR161 and continue as above.
