      Directions to Coupeville Recreation Hall From I-5, Exit 230, Hwy
      20/Burlington, take State Route 20 west, to Oak Harbor, then Coupeville,
      approx. 40 miles. At Coupeville, turn left onto Main Street. Left on
      Coveland. Go two blocks to Alexander. The Recreation Hall is at
      Alexander on the right. Left on Alexander to Parking on right.
      Accommodations for the Whidbey Walking Festival
      Coupeville has a few small hotels and lots of B&Bs. Some B&Bs are in
      Victorian Homes, some overlook the water. Oak Harbor has larger hotels.

      doesn't mean it's raining in Coupeville!
      A Multi-event, three-day festival of walks. A meet 'n' greet Friday, a
      pasta dinner Saturday evening, a salmon bbq and a free concert Sunday
      afternoon. Five walk routes plus two seasonal events available for those
      who want even more walking, Visit beautiful Whidbey Island for a
      Volkswalking Extravaganza! See Washington's second oldest town with its
      Victorian homes and small town stores. Walk across farm fields and to
      the beach. See Jenne Farm, Admiralty Head Lighthouse and Fort Casey's
      Artillery Bunkers. Fabulous Puget Sound and Mountain views on all walks.
      And we haven't forgotten the fourth F in Volkswalking-Food! After the
      special Mayor's walk on Friday, join us for a walkers' meet 'n' greet.
      On Saturday, come to a pasta dinner hosted by Soroptimist International
      of Coupeville with all proceeds going to go to help women and children
      in need in the Coupeville area and on Sunday the Town of Coupeville
      invites you to a free concert in the park and a Salmon BBQ.
      Farm Heritage One Way 5/10 km rated 2 (2C)
      New Route. Ride the bus to Jenne Farm. Walk through woods and Jenne Farm
      acreage, along country roads and across Bishop Farms and return back to
      Coupeville. Visit our agricultural heritage past and present. See
      historic Jenne Farm and pause for views across farmland to the Puget
      Sound, Cascades and Olympics. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
      Special Programs: National Heritage Walk;.
      Whidbey Coast to Coast 11/21 km rated 2 (2B)
      Walk on paved and dirt paths and along country roads, across Ebey's
      Landing Historical Reserve to Ebey's Landing beach. Watch for eagles,
      whales, otters. Views overlooking Puget Sound to Port Townsend and the
      Olympic Mountains. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Special
      Programs: National Heritage Walk, State Parks; Washington Challenges:
      Island County; Oceans, Cemeteries.
      Historic Town of Coupeville 5/10 km rated 2+ (2B)
      Walk around Coupeville seeing many Victorian homes and along main street
      to the much photo'd Penn Cove Dock. Views of Mount Baker and the Cascade
      Mountains. Look for artists in the Plein Air Painters' US Open around
      town and the Reserve. Join Mayor Conard on Friday evening for a special
      walk on this route. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Special
      Programs: National Heritage Walk; Washington Challenges: Island County;
      Historic Register.
      Fort Casey 10 km rated 2+ (2B)
      New Route. Ride the bus to Jenne Farm and walk to Fort Casey State Park
      on Whidbey Camano Land Trust and Seattle Pacific University land. View
      the Fort Casey Artillery Bunkers and Admiralty Head Lighthouse. Walk
      through woods and along bluff paths with views of the Puget Sound and
      Olympic Mountains. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs. Special
      Programs: Lighthouse USA, National Heritage Walk; Washington Challenges:
      Island County; Oceans.
      Penn Cove One-Way Walk 5/10 km rated 1+ (1B), SUNDAY ONLY
      Jump on the bus at the Coupeville Recreation Hall and ride it 6.2 miles
      to the start of this walk which will take you all along Penn Cove.
      Fabulous water and mountain views the entire walk. Look for wildlife and
      Penn Cove Mussel beds. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
      Special Programs: National Heritage Walk; Washington Challenges: Island
      County; Oceans.
      AWARD: This award stands alone or you can build onto it at every Whidbey
      Walking Festival. The first year award (pictured actual size on front)
      is cast metal with a 6" red, white and blue ribbon. $3 pre-registered
      until August 20. $4 purchased on-site. The second year (and future
      years) is a cast metal foot with "2" or "3" engraved and can be attached
      to the ribbon from the first year. $3 if ordered by August 20. $4 at
      event. How many feet will you get? If you have participated before and
      didn't buy the first year medal, you may buy both medals this year
      (previous year registration verified on-site.)
      Shirts: T-shirts and sweatshirts will be for sale and make a great
      reminder of this fun weekend. Cost and design aren't finalized yet but
      we hope to keep the prices to $15 for a t-shirt and $20 for a
      sweatshirt. Receive a $1 discount on site if you pre-register for the
      event. Sizes M-XL, Quantities limited.
      Door Prizes: Door prizes awarded throughout the weekend. All registered
      walkers are eligible. PRE-Registered walkers are eligible for special
      door prizes (Largest Group and Farthest Traveled) as well as several
      specially selected, randomly drawn prizes.
      Silent Auction: Take advantage of the silent auction during the weekend.
      Many wonderful items are up for grabs and all proceeds go to local

      Circumstances beyond our control has forced the Palouse Hills Volkssport
      Club in Pullman, WA to disband and to close all the walks maintained by
      our club. We want to thank those who supported us in walking our walks

      Trail: Walk on old railroad bed converted to a trail. Some rocks and
      one hill on the 10 km option. The trail winds along the Palouse River
      through cow pastures, high basalt canyons, and wooded forests. From the
      top of the canyon you will have views of Steptoe Butte and Kamiak Butte.

      Walk #1: Cooper River Walk 11K rated 3+ Riverwalk Washington State
      Challenge: Kittitas County The Trail: This route starts at Owhi
      Campground and follows the river to Salmon La Sac campground and
      returns. It's a "roller-coaster" of a walk with 400' elevation gain
      (several times) with beautiful views of the Cooper River.
      Walk #2: Owhi Campground Loop 10K rated 3+ Washington State Challenge:
      Kittitas County The Trail: 10K loop which starts from Owhi Campground
      and goes up a gravel road with a spectacular view of a mountain glacier.
      It then drops down through the woods and winds along the Cooper Lake
      back to the start point.
      Awards & Fees: A 100% embroidered multicolored patch in a diamond shape
      will be available for $7.50. All patches this year have a gold border
      for the club’s 20th anniversary. 50 only—no reorders. Credit only is
      $3.00. Free participants are welcome but must register and return a
      start card. Pre-registration due by 9-20-08. To pre-register for
      patch, use this form.
      Miscellaneous: Restrooms available at the start/finish. Carry your own
      water on the trail. Pets are allowed but owners must obey leash and
      scoop laws. Not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.
      Directions: Drivng on I-90 either direction take exit #80 and follow
      State Route #903 through Roslyn and Ronald, continuing toward Salmon La
      Sac campground. BEFORE you reach that campground, you will cross a
      bridge on your left and follow this road to Cooper Lake/Ohwi Campground
      parking lot.

      funds to support the fight against AIDS in Africa. The Lyle's Myles
      event is a run of 7.4 km (0.1 km for each year of Lyle's age). There

      walk event was added to invite volkswalkers to join the fun and support
      Lyle's charitable work.

      Sunday, October 12, 2008 LEWISVILLE PARK WALK, WA
      START/FINISH: Lewisville Regional Park, 26411 NW Lewisville Highway
      (SR-503).
      TIMES: Start any time between 8am and 1pm; Finish by 4pm.
      DISTANCE and RATING: 10km (6.2 miles) or 5km (3.1 miles), Rated 2+.
      TRAIL DESCRIPTION: Lewisville Park is heavily forested and lies along
      the East Fork of the Lewis River in north Clark County. The park’s 154
      acres were originally developed by the WPA and the park is on the
      National Register of Historic Places. Surfaces include pavement, natural
      and crushed rock paths.
      COMFORT: Water and restrooms available at registration area and
      elsewhere in the park. Pets allowed on short leash with proper clean-up.
      FEES: AVA Credit Only is $3. No refunds. Non-credit walkers are welcome
      to participate at no charge. All must register, carry, and return a
      start card.
      ELIGIBILITY: This event is sanctioned by the American Volkssport
      Association, part of the International Federation of Popular Sports
      (IVV), and counts toward the acquisition of IVV achievement awards.
      Everyone is welcome to participate. Children under 12 years of age must
      be accompanied by an adult.
      NEW WALKERS: This event is part of the AVA Achievement Awards Program.
      Participants can earn event and/or distance credits, then redeem
      completed books for a certificate, patch, and hatpin after certain
      milestones are achieved. Special New Walker Packets, including discount
      coupons at a bargain price, will be available at the registration table.
      DISCLAIMER: Although every effort will be made to make this a safe,
      enjoyable event, the sponsors are not liable for accidents, injuries,
      thefts and other material damages. By registering for this event, each
      participant agrees to accept the guidelines for Volkssport events
      published by the American Volkssport Association (AVA) and to observe
      the principles of good sportsmanship. This event will be held regardless
      of weather; adverse weather may increase the rating.

        A multi-event, three-day festival of walks. A free meet 'n' greet
        Friday, a free bratwurst BBQ with Bluegrass music Saturday afternoon, a
        salmon BBQ and a free concert Sunday afternoon. Four walk routes plus
        six seasonal events available for those who want even more walking,
        Visit beautiful Whidbey Island for a Volkswalking Extravaganza! See
        Washington's second oldest town with its Victorian homes and small town
        stores. Walk across farm fields and to the beach. Fabulous Puget Sound
        and Mountain views on all walks. And we haven't forgotten the fourth F
        in Volkswalking-Food!
        Walk Routes
        Whidbey Coast-to-Coast 5/11 km rated (2B)
        Friday morning. Walk on paved and dirt paths and along country roads,
        across Ebey's Landing Historical Reserve to Ebey's Landing beach. Watch
        for eagles, whales, otters. Views overlook the Puget Sound to Port
        Townsend and the Olympic Mountains. Not suitable for strollers or
        wheelchairs.
        Historic Town of Coupeville 5/10 km rated (2A)
        Friday afternoon and Saturday Morning. Walk around Coupeville seeing
        many Victorian homes and along Main street to the much photo'd Penn Cove
        Dock. Views of Mount Baker and the Cascade Mountains. Look for artists
        in the Plein Air Painters' US Open around town and the Reserve. Join
        Mayor Conard on Friday evening for a special group walk on this route.
        Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
        Farm Heritage One-Way Walk 5/10 km rated (1C)
        Saturday afternoon. Walk along rural roads and across farm fields to
        Jenne Farm. Visit our agricultural heritage past and present. See
        historic Jenne Farm and pause for views across farmland to the Puget
        Sound, Cascades and Olympics. Take your time and enjoy a bratwurst while
        you are at the farm. Catch a special bus back to Coupeville Recreation
        Hall. Not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
        Penn Cove One-Way Walk 5/10 km rated (1A)
        Sunday Morning. Jump on the bus at the Coupeville Recreation Hall and
        ride it 6.2 miles to the start of this walk which will take you all
        along Penn Cove. Fabulous water and mountain views the entire walk. Look
        for wildlife and Penn Cove Mussel beds. Not suitable for strollers or
        wheelchairs.

        Mayor's Walk, Coupeville Town. Group walk (5 or 10 km)
        Registration Time: 3pm - 4pm Start: 4pm Finish: 7pm
        Meet 'n' Greet - 6pm after the Mayor's walk, Finger foods provided.

        Historic Town - Start: 8 am - 10 am (5/10 km) Finish: 1 pm
        Farm Heritage - Start 11 am - 1 pm (5/10 km) Finish: 4 pm
        Bluegrass Music by Cranberry Bog at the checkpoint 1 pm - 3:30 pm
        Listen to a mixture of bluegrass, country blues and rock to bluegrass.
        Bratwurst on the Grill at the checkpoint 12:30 pm - 2 pm while they
        last!
        Sunday, September 9
        Penn Cove - Start 8:30 am - Noon (5/10 km). Finish 3 pm
        Salmon BBQ in the Park - Noon - 1:30 pm. All proceeds to Coupeville
        Lions Service Projects.
        Free Concert in the Park - 1:30 pm Listen to Dillinger's Clambake,
        a "new era" swing band that mixes the styles of Ballroom and Jitterbug
        with Roack and Roll and Funk.
        Accommodations
        The closest hotels are filling up fast! Coupeville has a few small
        hotels and lots of B&Bs. Some B&Bs are in Victorian Homes, some overlook
        the water. Oak Harbor has larger hotels. We suggest you make your
